OSU's Surplus Property has been serving the OSU and Corvallis community for over 40 years!
OSUsed is Surplus Property's public in-person storefront that allows the university and partnered agencies to recoup costs while allowing members of the public to give surplus items a new purpose.
OSUsed sales occur every Tuesday from 5:30-7:30PM and Friday from 12-3PM (excluding holidays). Our warehouse is located at 644 SW 13th Street, Corvallis (13th St. & A Ave.) To learn more, visit our OSUsed Page!

Each year, OSU has the opportunity to offer students an easy way to donate the items they no longer need while moving out, redistributing those reusable goods to nonprofits in our community - usually over 20 tons! We believe that together we can all improve our campus and neighborhoods, keep goods out of landfills, and be a benefit to our community.

Back in April, we were able to host a "Labware Sale" for local educators to pick up free lab glass and equipment. Below is a testimonial from one of our event's guests:
"My name is Ashley da Silva and I am the science department head for Seven Oak Middle School and the Middle Level Science curriculum specialist for our district, Lebanon Community Schools. We attended the OSUsed science supply event for public schools this year, and also did last year. The donations provided by Oregon State University could not have come at a better time. Our district, like many, is facing budget cuts as the state funding from covid disappears. We believe quite strongly that students must learn about science processes and careers by experimenting using hands-on materials. There are many quality Internet-based resources available, but they often do not engage student interest -- especially for our visual and tactile learners -- as much. We are proud to offer hands-on labs that include times for students to test out their own ideas related to what we're learning.
This year, we were able to replenish our supply of glassware to support the seventh grade unit about chemical reactions. We were also able to add a lab about bacteria to our eighth grade curriculum using supplies from OSUsed and are excited to work on trying it out on our curriculum days at the start of the year. We were even able to find ink for the departmental printer, so students will be able to print in color for our annual community science fair event! These are all things that we are grateful to have considering our limited budget and our desire to bring hands-on inquiry experiences to our students!"

In June, Surplus Property hosted giveaways for retired housing chairs during their weekly OSUsed sales. The university is phasing out their two-positional chairs found in dorms across campus and needed a way to give them a new life rather than landfilling them. Over three sale days, they were able to give away 225 chairs with the help of Surplus and UHDS staff. This collaboration is a perfect example of the in-action sustainability work that's possible with across-campus communication and coordination.
Getting Gear Back on the Field: Surplus Property reaches out to local schools with the same colors as OSU and teams in need to get them retired jerseys, pants, cleats, and whatever else they may find a use for. We have donated over 500 pairs of football pants and 300 pairs of football cleats to Waldo Middle School, Marcola School District, Oregon Trenches University, Salem's Capital Pioneer Women's Tackle Football Team, Scio School District, and more.
Upcycling Gear: Surplus has also donated old jerseys to the College of Business' Launch Pad course where student groups were asked to upcycle about 10 lbs of textiles for the purpose of turning them into prototypes for products as Launch Pad is a course intended to prep young entrepreneurs. These students made prototypes of pillowcases, quilts, tote bags, wall hangings, sound-dampening wall tiles, and more.
Athletic Sales: Surplus Property hosts several athletic sales that offer OSU gear and other surplus athletics items available for fans and the public. The biggest sale occurs every other spring and brings in 3-5,000 guests with the help of Athletics staff, Surplus staff, and volunteers; the next sale will be in April 2024. Additionally, we support the OSU Crew team by hosting a sale at the Fall Regatta. This fun event is hosted down at the docks on the Willamette River before the team's race. Lastly, Rec Sports, Adventure Leadership Institute and Surplus host a sale every February during Vert Fest to sell camping supplies, tents, rafts, canoes, climbing & ski gear, and other outdoor items; proceeds go toward funds for new equipment.
